About the Artist
Yu Xiaofang, pen name Dafang, was born in 1946 in Shengzhou, Zhejiang Province. She is a member of the Zhejiang Provincial Cartoonists Association and the Yangtze River Delta Women’s Calligraphy and Painting Institute. She graduated with a degree in Chinese Language and Literature from Hangzhou University and later studied Integrated Painting at the China Academy of Art, attended the Gong Jianxin Ink Figure Modeling Advanced Study Class at Tsinghua University Academy of Fine Arts, and participated in the Zhou Shaohua New Ink Advanced Study Class organized by Art Weekly.
Since the 1980s, her works have been exhibited and awarded both domestically and internationally. She has been invited to participate in cultural exchanges and sketching tours across Europe, Africa, and South Asia. In 1993, she founded the Shengzhou Yuefeng Art School, serving as its executive principal. In 2013, she was featured in the special publication National Art Figures: Yu Xiaofang. Her 2016 comic artwork G20 Landmark Blue and White Porcelain was collected by Zhejiang Provincial Government in Hangzhou.
In 2017, Shanghai People’s Fine Arts Publishing House released her album New Ink Painting with National Style: Yu Xiaofang’s Collection. In 2018, her exhibition Extraordinary National Style: Yu Xiaofang’s New Ink Paintings and the album’s launch ceremony, alongside a donation event to Asian schools, were held at the Shanghai Library, covered by media outlets such as Calligraphy and Painting Channel, China Calligraphy and Painting News, and Art Weekly. During the most recent years, she has dedicated herself to creating new ink facial mask art and ceramic comic portraits.
